Wine Filters
|
The Super Jet is a great filter form the
money. The Super Jet pump can be used alone as a transfer pump. Note
in the close up photo on the right that there is a pressure gauge
which tells you when the filter pads are starting to clog. This
takes the guesswork out of when to change pads if you are filtering
very large batches of wine, or beer.
About the pads: The Coarse pads
filter larger particles of 6 microns or above. The Polish pad then
removes particles down to 1 micron. For crystal clear wine, you can
then use the Sterile pad which filters down to .5 microns. They must
be used in succession. You can't start with the sterile filter, as
it will clog too quickly.

Buon
Vino Mini Jet Filter
The
Buon Vino MiniJet has been designed with the small quantity
winemaker or brewer in mind. It is the perfect way for the
home hobbyist to produce a beer or wine with a commercial
shine.
Its compact design
incorporates a self-prime motorized pump capable of
filtering up to 5 gallons in 15 minutes. A built in drip
tray and drainage tube ensure a no mess, no fuss clean-up
job. And its triple filter pads add a crystal clear,
sparkling quality to your beer or wine.
Perfect Brewing Review:
I purchased one of these units
myself to use on beer. While mainly designed as a wine
filter, they work well for beer also. It uses 3 stage
disposable filters. There are three grades of filters, but
for beer I only use the first 2. The last is a .5 micron,
and I didn't think is was necessary for beer.
I found that the unit worked
very well, but it is very important that you let as much
yeast settle out as possible. The first (coarse) filter
catches most of the sediment, and can clog very quickly. I
got a little anxious and filtered my first batch too soon.
Not a major problem, but you have to change the pads half
way through. My second batch, I used finings, racked to a
secondary fermenter, and had no problems using a single pad.
Keep in mind that you are
filtering out the yeast, so this unit can't be used for beer
unless you are kegging, and carbonating with CO2. This unit
is quite heavy duty for the money, and produces great
looking beer and wine. If you are intending to filter, this
is a very cost effective way to go. Be sure to purchase the
filter pads, which are sold separately.
